The second phone on the list is the Samsung Galaxy A10. This budget phone’s price is Kenya is around KSh.12,000. The Galaxy A10 is followed by another popular Samsung A series phone, the Galaxy A50. This is not surprising since most Samsung A series phones have enjoyed high demand since the series was launched at the beginning of 2019.
Fourth on the list is Oppo A9 which takes 1.6 per cent share of the smartphone market. Other Oppo phones on the list include the Oppo A5s and the Oppo A5 which take the 6th and the 8th positions respectively.
Why is the iPhone XR so popular?
Well, the success of this phone can be attributed to Apple’s brand reputation and its attractive price. iPhone XR was launched in 2018 alongside the iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Max. It was considered as the affordable option for those who found the others a little too expensive. High sales volumes can also be attributed to the fact that Apple lowered the price of this phone for the better part of 2019. In Kenya, the iPhone XR is currently priced at KSh.70,000. The report further discloses that the XR alone has accounted for more than a quarter of the total sales by Apple in the third quarter of 2019.

Xiaomi has dominated smartphone news over that past year with fantastic devices, but it’s surprising that it only has one device in the top 10 list. The only handset from Xiaomi is the Redmi 7A which takes the 9th position. Huawei too has only one phone in the top 10; the Huawei P30. Poor performance by Huawei can be attributed to the sanctions that barred it from conducting business freely with US-based companies.
It’s also interesting that none of Samsung’s Flagships are featured on the top 10 list. Apple had another model, the iPhone 11 at the fifth position.
